The Caribbean Association of Theological Schools came into
being in 1986 and consissts of four institutions affiliated to
the University of the West Indies: Codrington College, The Regional
Seminary of St. John Vianney and the Ugandan Martyrs in Trinidad,
The Unified Theological College of the West Indies in Jamaica,
and St. Michael's Theological Centre in Jamaica. These four colleges
administer all degrees in Theology for the University of the
West Indies, an institution with campuses in Jamaica, Barbados,
and Trinidad and Tobago.
Meetings of the Association are usually conducted by means
of the University's teleconferencing facilities. Occasionally,
the colleges meet for conferences that require longer than two
hours. Such conferences facilitate curriculum reviews or other
academic exercises.
Vast distances between the islands and expensive air and
telephone communications impede much of the association's work.
Nevertheless, the association struggles to overcome these difficulties
so as to ensure that it provides quality services to the churches
in the region.
